A Dog of Flanders Overview

A Dog of Flanders is a novel by Ouida, which is the pseudonym of Marie Louise de la Ramée. Written in 1872 and set in Belgium, the novel follows the story of a little boy named Nello and his dog, Patrasche. The two live in poverty, but they love one another very much. When Nello's grandfather passes away, they are turned out on the street together. The novel explores animal cruelty, Christianity, selfishness, greed, and the power of dreams.
