A GROWING NUMBER of social, health, government, and private organizations periodically conduct surveys and studies of teenage sexual activity, some of which are discussed and quoted in this book. The first wellknown and influential such study, conducted by the researcher Alfred Kinsey in the 1940s, examined teen sex as part of the larger and more general context of sexual behavior in America. Later, government health organizations, most notably the CDC, as well as private organizations, began conducting studies and regularly compiling statistics on sexual practices, including those of teenagers.
