Lloyd Omdahl

Lloyd Omdahl is a professor of political science at the University of North Dakota and former lieutenant governor of that state. In the following viewpoint, he argues against posting the Ten Commandments in public places (including public schools), a practice that has been promoted by members of Congress and others in the wake of the April 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado. Omdahl asserts that such an action by itself would do little to prevent violence or teach character, but would violate the separation of church and state. In addition, he argues that Christians such as himself should object to the posting of the Ten Commandments because they misrepresent what he believes to be the true nature of Christianity.
