Phyllis Schlafly

In 1993, federal agents surrounded a compound in Waco, Texas, home of the Branch Davidians cult which was under investigation for amassing illegal weapons. The cult members refused to comply with a search warrant and a standoff between the Davidians and the FBI ensued. After fifty-one days, the FBI inserted tear gas into the buildings, and shortly thereafter the compound caught fire, resulting in the deaths of eighty-six cult members and four federal agents.
