Most people would agree that it is nice to receive a love letter. Computer hackers, however, took advantage of that feeling by creating the LoveLetter worm that was distributed via e-mail attachments. Many computer users received e-mails with the subject line reading "I LOVE YOU" and curiously opened the attachment, which infected their machines. First appearing in May 2001, the LoveLetter worm tunneled its way into e-mail address books and sent itself to computer users the world over in a matter of days. Since then, more than 80 variations of the worm have been unearthed.
