Objective

Objective: Chapter One In the first chapter we are introduced to the main characters, Al Manheim and Sammy Glick, who both work for the newspaper The New York Record. Even though Sammy is only a copy boy, and Al is an experienced writer, Al quickly recognizes Sammy is motivated to get ahead in the workplace. This lesson will discuss the first impressions and characteristics of Al Manheim and Sammy Glick.

1) 1.) Class Activity: Have the students divide into groups of two or three. The groups should make a list of characteristics/ personality traits they think Sammy has and a list of characteristics/ personality traits they think Al has. Each characteristic should be backed up by a short example/ explanation from the text.
