• This book is written in the past tense and from the first-person point of view.
• The narrator is the god Apollo who has recently been transformed by his father Zeus into a mortal, in the body of a teenager named Lester Papadopolous.
• All chapters begin with a haiku written by Apollo/Lester. Throughout the book, characters refer to Apollo alternatively as Apollo/Lester.
• Apollo and his companions, Hephaestus's son, Leo Valdez, and the now-mortal sorceress Calypso, had crash-landed in Indianapolis with the mechanical, metal dragon Festus.
