Max does not feel confident that he can thwart the burglars. What situations does Max remember that were not particularly successful? Why does he think since he failed in those situations he will fail in thwarting the burglars? Why does Max have low self-esteem?

Even when Max is trying to stop the burglars, he tries not to hurt them. The burglars are willing to hurt anyone who attempts to stop them from stealing the computers. What is conveyed about kindness and cruelty through the behavior of Max and of the burglars? Why would the phrase “honor between thieves” not apply to the burglars?
