1. What is happening to Sutton Mercer in the Prologue?

In the Prologue, Sutton Mercer wakes in a claw-footed bathtub. She doesn't know where she is or how she came to be there. She has very limited memory other than her name and that she lives in Tucson, Arizona. She believes someone might have "slipped" her some kind of drug. Sutton realizes she can't see herself in the mirror. She feels herself slipping into an even fuzzier state and forces herself to concentrate. She then realizes she's dead.

2. What was Becky like when Emma lived with her?

Emma's childhood was lived with her erratic mother, Becky. Becky had often been fun-loving, shouting answers to the puzzles on "Wheel of Fortune," and other times spending hours crying on the couch. Sometimes Becky took Emma shopping, buying her a couple of each thing. When Emma questioned the reason for two pairs of the same kind of shoe, her mother would say it was in case one got dirty.
