In the Prologue, Ronnie, the protagonist, is preparing for her father's funeral. Her mother comes into the room and asks her to tell her the story of her final months with her father. Ronnie thinks of when it all began and shows her mother a newspaper clipping of a news article about a church fire.

2. What foreshadowing is revealed in the Prologue? How is the end of the novel set up from this first opening?

In the Prologue of the novel, the reader learns that Ronnie's father has died. Ronnie's thought that it began with a fire at a church suggests to the reader that the fire has a significant impact on the plot of the novel even though the reader is not clear what caused this fire or what this church has to do with the main characters of the novel at this point.
