Objective

Chapter 1, East and West. The ancient Greeks began as members of the Oriental East, but broke the mold and established the basis for Western civilization. there was a new power at work in the people of ancient Athens that allowed them to surpass all of history in terms of art, culture, writing and architecture. The objective of this lesson is to grasp the accomplishments of the Greeks.

Lesson

1. The achievements of the Greeks and the changes they brought about are important for students to grasp. Divide the students into discussion groups of five or six and allow them to discuss the significance of the Greeks and what they accomplished. What do they think were the major accomplishments and why?

2. Allow the students to visit the library and research the relevant period of the development of Athens. What was life like then? Why didn't these changes occur...
