Objective

Part One, A Woman on the Street

Homelessness is a serious problem in modern American society. It also figures significantly in this memoir, as the author's mother is homeless. Her homelessness occurs both as a result of the choices that she has made in rejecting mainstream beliefs about what a good life is, and the way that society can marginalize those who are different. The objective of Lesson #1 is to learn more about the causes and extent of the problem of homelessness in America today.
