Write an essay for ONE of the following topics:

Essay Topic 1

Describe the events surrounding Mariotta's miscarriage. Include an explanation of the argument between her and Richard that prompts her to leave, where she seeks shelter during the miscarriage, how she is found and helped, her meeting with Francis, and where she travels to after the meeting is not what she expects. In addition, provide an analysis of Richard's reaction to Mariotta's absence, his original intentions for returning, and the conversation between Richard and Sybilla.

Explain the impact that Mariotta's anonymous jewelry has on her marriage.
