1. What is Johannes's story?

Johannes was born in the park. His mother is a domestic dog who lives in a house. For some reason when she was pregnant, she came to the park and gave birth in a hollow tree. She took one of the puppies, Leonard, back home with her. The rest of them, including Johannes, were left to live in the park.

2. What was it like for Johannes and his siblings after their mother left them at the park?

After their mother left them at the park, Johannes and his siblings--Joanie, Janie, and Steven--ate heartily from the garbage near the snack vendors. It was easy to get food, and they ate well. Then Joanie, Janie, and Steven were taken by humans, and Johannes remained free.

3. How did Johannes become the Eyes, and what does he do?

One day as Johannes ran through the park, he heard a rumbling voice that told him to stop and asked him to come. He moved toward the voice, which appeared to be a fur-covered boulder. As he moved closer, he realized that what appeared to be a boulder was a Bison. The bison introduced herself as Freya, one of the three bison in the park. She said they were the rulers of the park, and they needed someone fast like Johannes to let them know what was going on in the park. Therefore, the bison asked him to become their eyes. He was to run the park daily as he always did and then to report just after sunset each day what he had seen and if there was anything new.
