Objective

The objective of this lesson is to explore the background and career of Herman Koch, the author of The Dinner. Herman Koch is a Dutch writer, actor and television producer. His novels have been translated into dozens of languages and are sold in more than 50 countries. The Dinner, published in 2009, is his third novel, and the book that introduced him to the international stage.

Lesson

Group Activity: Divide the class into four small groups. Assign each group a specific aspect of Koch's background (i.e. Bio, Novels, Themes, Career/Awards, etc.) and create a short presentation about the important points of their topic. Groups should conduct their research online, using reliable sources of information. Groups should create and deliver a short presentation involving at least one visual component.
