Matthew, Zoe, and Duncan walk home from school when their father is late picking them up. As they walk by a field, Zoe thinks she sees something. They climb over the gate and they find a boy lying on the ground. He is breathing, but there is blood all over his legs.

2. What happens when Duncan goes to get help in Chapter 1?

Duncan goes back to the road to get help for the boy in the field. The first and second cars ignore him. A third car, baby blue, with the antenna bent slows. Then the car accelerates and speeds away. Duncan decides to stand in the road. The next car brakes and the driver asks him what is wrong. He tells her there is a boy hurt in the field, and she calls for an ambulance.
