Lesson 1 (from Part I: “The Last Historian,” Chapters 1-12)

Objective

The 5th Wave is a young adult supernatural thriller by American author Rick Yancey. The novel is set in a post-apocalyptic dystopia following the attack of extraterrestrial life forms on Earth. In Part I: “The Last Historian,” the reader is introduced to Cassie Sullivan, a sixteen-year-old survivor of the invasion and the novel’s protagonist. In this lesson, students will research author Rick Yancey and will identify and analyze the protagonist and setting established in Part I: “The Last Historian,” Chapters 1 through 4.
