Objective

Preface.

It is rumors of a cultural collision that bring the author, Anne, to Merced, California to talk to Hmong refugees. She meets the Lees and while Anne is comfortable in American society, she learns to become equally at ease on the red folding chair, the honored guest's position, where she sits during her time in the Lee's apartment. Today's lesson focuses on the author's thoughts in the preface on her relationship with the Lee family.
