Objective

The objective of this lesson is to discuss the position of British women in the mid 1880's which is revealed in Chapter 1 in the description of the Poetry Society and the Magistrate's treatment of the women in the society. The students will also be encouraged to discuss their views on the position of women in society even today.

Lesson

1) For class discussion: Have the class discuss the poems written by the women in the Krishnapur Poetry Society. What do think

of the poems ? Are they impressed by any of them? Do any of the women have talent in the opinion of the students? Ask for volunteers to read the various portions of poems in the novel.
