Objective

In Book 1, in some ways the depiction of the heath defines the characters and their feelings. This lesson will discuss the setting, as well as what is known about the characters.

Class Discussion: Describe the setting. What characters have we met?

Small Group Activity: Compare the depiction of the setting to the characters. How does this depiction define the characters and their feelings?

Class Discussion: How does the heath define the characters and their feelings? Are there any characters who seem in contrast to the heath? If so, who are they, and how are they contrasting?

Homework: Create a KWL chart, listing what you know about each character and what you want to know about each character. As the story progresses, write what you have learned about each of the characters.
