Objective

The chapter C.V. introduces Stephen King to the readers of his book, On Writing. The first part of the chapter is about his early childhood. The goal of today's lesson is to familiarize the class with King's childhood.

Lesson

1. For class discussion: When was King born? Where? How does he describe his childhood? What did he remember about his childhood? How does he describe his nannies? How was his health as a child? How did he entertain himself during this period?

2. Small group work: Write a quiz of ten questions for the class to answer about King's childhood. Prepare an answer sheet to go with the questions.

3. Pair work: King claims he began to put stories down on paper. Try to remember when you were six to seven years old, or in first grade. What kind of stories do you think he wrote at this...
