Objective

Objective: Part 1, Chapter 1. Norman Mailer uses descriptive text to develop his characters. A character analysis is a good way to learn about the various characters in the book and gain an understanding as to why events happen the way they do. In this lesson, students will learn how to pick out various character traits from the reading in order to develop a full character analysis.

1) Divide the class into four groups and assign each group one of the following characters: Wilson, Croft, Red, and Brown. Have each group develop a character analysis of their assigned character by defining the following: physical traits, personality, background. Have the groups discuss their characters to the whole class.
