• This book was written from the first-person perspective and in the past tense. Part I is titled "I Am The Gulf Between English and Spanish." Chapter 1 is titled "A Multilingual Block in West Philly."

• In Chapter 1, Hudes was a young child and her parents were moving from their block in West Philadelphia to a horse farm in Malvern, PA.

• Hudes loved her block, with people of all different backgrounds and languages.

• When she asked her mother, Virginia, why they were leaving, her mother said they had been in the city too long and she needed to get back to the country, like in Puerto Rico, where Virginia was born.
