Objective

Objective: Act 1 The writer goes to great lengths to describe the opening set. Students will discuss and explore the opening set.

1. Class Discussion - Discuss the appearance of the opening set. What are the walls made of? Are there any windows? Where is the window located?

2. Group Activity - Divide the class into small groups. Discuss the furniture that is in the opening set. Can you tell what era the play takes place in due to the furniture? Does the furniture give away what region the play takes place in?

3. Writing Assignment - Write an essay describing the mood that the opening set has created for the audience. Be sure to include how it resembles a prison cell.
