1. Describe John Robison as a child.

John Robison liked order, and he was upset when his playmates would mess up his patterns. He would get violent when his friends did not do what he expected, and he hit his friend Doug on the ears. He would also yank his dog's ears, and hit him. He feels safest around animals and machines.

John's parents fight a lot and this frightens John, when he can hear them. John's father drinks, and he has an affair with another woman. They move around a bit, to Seattle, and then to Amherst--before John's father finds a permanent job.

3. What problems does John say he had playing with other children?

John did not pick up the other children's cues--he would not respond to what they were saying, but he would say the things in his head, and this made him unpopular.
