Objective

Chapters 1 and 2

The main characters of the novel are introduced in these first chapters. Have students discuss character traits and motivations and how they Affect the plot development.

Lesson

1) List the characters introduced in these chapters on the board. Have students provide character traits of each character that can be written under each character's name. Discuss with students these traits and how they impact the plot development.

2) Discuss personality traits with students. Have each student name a character trait and an example of that trait. Have students discuss how character traits can motivate a person and how those motivations effect a person's actions. Students should then take what they have learned and discuss the motivations of the characters in this novel and how those motivations could impact the plot.

Homework:

1) Have students make a collage from newspaper and magazine clippings with pictures that represent personality traits...
