True Son has been told from a small child that his white blood was replaced with Indian blood, and his white thoughts and meanness traded for brave Indian thoughts. This lesson will discuss stereotypes.

Lesson

1) Class discussion: Have students share why True Son believes that whites have meanness and Indians are brave. What might True Son believe if he had never been kidnapped, but raised with his white family? Are either points of view correct?

2) Parallel themes in other works: Can you think of characters in other books or movies who hold stereotypes of other groups of people? Break the class into two or three different groups. Have them think of as many different works that parallel with this theme.
