Lesson 1 (from Introduction - Chapter 3)
Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine bonded labor as a system of unfree labor. Like indenture and slavery, bonded labor is a type of unfree labor. Although bonded laborers are supposed to be working to repay a loan or debt, they are often manipulated, like Fatima and the other carpet makers, so that the debt is never repaid and they never gain their freedom.
