Objective

In this Daily Lesson, the students will understand what is learned about the playwright in the beginning of the book.

The author, Paula Vogel, is a playwright who collaborated with Rebecca Taichman on the Broadway play, Indecent. The story of the original play, The God of Vengeance, and its subsequent trial caught Vogel’s attention as a young college student.

Lesson

Class Discussion: Have the students answer the following questions: Who is the playwright of Indecent? What is known about her from the information given in the preface? Why might she have chosen to write this play?

Small Group Activity: Have the students split into small groups and answer the following questions: What is the connection between the playwright and Rebecca Taichman? Why might the playwright want to collaborate with Taichman? What might the two women have in common?
