Typically, an epigraph is expected to speak to or set the tone for the work it introduces. Do the epigraphs of Impossible Creatures do so for the present novel? How or how not?

A lack of formal sectional division in the novel obliges a fairly arbitrary breakdown of the text for purposes of study and discussion. That is, there are chapters, but the chapters are not grouped together in larger sections. On what grounds might the divisions used for study and discussion be in place? Why and how are they appropriate to the text?
