Harry has a hard time summoning his Patronus Charm because he is depressed. His friends have barely written him all summer, he's arguing with his family, and he feels very lonely. He needs to think of something that makes him happy to summon the charm; he is only able to do so when he thinks of Ron and Hermione.

1. The first owl is from the Ministry of Magic, expelling him from Hogwarts and telling him his wand will be destroyed. 2. The third owl is from the Ministry of Magic, informing Harry that his expulsion is being reconsidered and he will have a formal hearing on the matter. 4. The fourth owl is from Sirius, telling Harry that Sirius knows what is happening and that Harry should not leave the house for any reason.
