Lesson 1 (from The Madman, The Voter)

Objective

The aim of this lesson is to introduce the character of Nwibe.

Lesson

1. With the students, brainstorm all the places they think Nwibe goes in his spare time, what he thinks about, what he cares about, what we know of his character so far. Divide the students into pairs and ask them to choose one of the settings and develop a conversation between Nwibe and one of his friends.

2. With the students, decide what they think Nwibe's goal is in the book. Divide the students into pairs and ask them to design a diagram that shows the different stages that Nwibe will have to complete to work towards his goal and how he can get back on track when he makes a mistake.
