Objective

The objective of this lesson is for the students to analyze the setting of Floaters.

The setting of Floaters is San Diego, both on the water, in seedy areas, as well as wealthy ones. It is reminiscent of the setting of Pretty Woman, a popular movie that came out in 1990, four years prior to the time period of the story.

Class Discussion: Have the students answer the following questions: What is the setting of Floaters? What are details given by the narrator regarding this setting? How does the setting come alive for the reader?
