Objective

Theodor Fontane, the author of "Effi Briest", is widely regarded as one of the most respected and esteemed German writers in history. His novel, "Effi Briest," a German classic, is considered to be Fontane's masterpiece. This lesson discusses the author of "Effi Briest", Theodor Fontane.

Lesson

1) Library research and presentation:

a) Have students research the author, Theodor Fontane. Explore the other works he has written, as well as his background. Research essays and critiques written by academics on Fontane and his work.

b) After researching, and compiling their research into a report, choose a few students to present their report to the class.

c) Give students a pop quiz based on the presentations.

2) Class discussion: Discuss the following questions with the class:
