Originally, Greg created the comic with the help of his friend, Rowley, and Greg critiques Rowley's contributions. Why is it ironic that Greg is upset with the final publishing of his comic?

At the end of the year, Greg and Rowley get into a fight that some teenagers end up egging on, which leads Rowley to eat the dreaded Cheese. Greg ends up telling the teenagers he is allergic, so that he does not have to eat it. Why does Greg allow Rowley to take the punishment, and how does Greg try to make himself look better, even though he clearly chickens out at the time of the fight?
