• Alexandra's boyfriend, J, works as a scientist and researcher and is applying to different PhD programs around the country, and Alexandra is ambivalent about moving. J is white and Alexandra is Asian.
• Alexandra's work colleague Tim, who is a well-respected writer, tells her she should re-think moving because it will not be good for her career.
• Alexandra has mixed feelings about her work. She loves the rush of reporting and deadlines, but she feels undervalued by the company she works for...
