Essay Topic 1

Simon and Penny are deeply shaken when they realize the Insidious Humdrum looks just like Simon. Later, towards the end of the novel, they discover the physical similarities between Simon and the Humdrum are because the two are so closely connected. Write an essay analyzing the connections and relationship between Simon and the Humdrum, noting how Simon uses his knowledge of their connections to ultimately stop the Humdrum's destruction.

In Carry On, the reader understands whose Simon Snow's parents are and how his mother, Lucy, felt about him, but neither Simon nor any of the other main characters ever discover this information.
