Turtle finds Everardo at a cousin's house half drunk. She drags him into the backseat next to their six-month-old son, Ever. Then she drives out of Oklahoma, through Texas, and to Mexico where Everardo's parents live.

After visiting Everardo's parents in Mexico, Turtle and Everardo drive home. They run into a road block of three police cars. The police take them to a police station and dump all their things on the side of the road. Then they start to beat Everardo. Turtle gives them all the money she has. They finally let them go, but Everardo is badly injured.
