Objective

Objective: Given that the whole basis of the play revolves around religion, students need to have a basis understanding of the religious views from this period. The objective of this lesson is to introduce students the Norwegian religious beliefs of the late-1800s for better understanding of the play.

1) Small group discussion- In small groups of 3-4, students should research religion in Norway during the late-1800s. Pose the following questions to the small groups for discussion: What did the majority of Norwegians believe in regard to religion? What limitations did Norwegians place on religious beliefs? What creeds do you believe Norwegians held regarding religion?
