Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1 - 3)

Objective

As the novel begins the reader immediately learns that Terry has been the recipient of a new heart. The heart was given to Terry by a serial killer's victim. Terry is getting used to his new heart and his new out look on life. He no longer has to worry about whether or not he will die. Now, his primary concern is to make sure that he can keep his heart working. Terry finds this difficult because he would like to help Graciela, but is afraid of the pressure it might put on his heart. While Terry has just gained a new heart, he has also lost his ability to act however he wishes, for fear that his new heart will give out.
