1. When does Watson get his Doctor of Medicine, and what does he do afterwards?

Watson takes his degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1878 at the University of London. Then he goes to Netley to take the course for surgeons in the army. When he finishes the course, he is attached to the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers as an Assitant Surgeon. The regiment is stationed in India, but before Watson joins it, war breaks out in Afghan. When he lands at Bombay, he and other officers travel to Candahar and join the regiment.

2. How is Watson injuried when he is in Afghanistan, and where is he taken afterwards?

At the battle of Maiwand, Watson is struck on the shoulder. The bone is shattered and the subclavian artery grazed. His orderly, Murray, throws him on a packhorse and gets him safely to British lines. At the base hospital at Peshawar, he is treated for his wounds.
