The Nightmare is the one with darkness, wind, and screaming. It is the nightmare where he is holding hands and the hands always slip from his grasp no matter how hard he tries to hold on.

2. What does Conor hear and see just after midnight on pages 2-9.

Just after midnight, Conor hears someone calling his name. It is not a voice he recognizes. Then he hears the sound of creaking wood outside. When he looks outside, he sees the giant yew in the graveyard. Then he sees the yew tree in his yard. As he watches, the tree transforms into a monster.

3. What happens when Conor tells the monster on page 9 to come and get him?

When Conor tells the monster to come and get him, The monster asks him what he said. Conor repeats himself. Then the monster roars and pounds two fists against the house. The monster smashes an arm through Conor's window. Then the monster grabs Conor, swings him out of his room, and holds him high. When Conor says that he is not afraid of the monster, the monster says that Conor will be afraid in the end.
