Died Circa 95 C.E.
Poet

Epic Tale. Virtually nothing is known about the life of the epic poet Valerius Flaccus. Historians think that he was of senatorial rank and that the opening of his epic was written circa 75 C.E. The only thing that is certain is that he is mentioned as having recently died in about 95 C.E. (Quint. Inst. 10.1.90). He is remembered principally for his Argonautica, an epic (based on the Argonautica of Apollonius of Rhodes), which tells the story of Jason and the Argonauts.
