Chapter 46-50 Summary

Chapter 46, Hollingford Gossips

Miss Phoebe asks Molly if she wanted to go to the bookstore with her. She gets the letter with the money in it just in case she sees Mr. Preston, which she does as soon as she walks into the bookstore. Miss Phoebe leaves before Molly can give the letter to him, but once they are outside Molly tells Miss Phoebe she will be right back and runs inside and puts the letter in his hand and is out the door before he knows what has happened. Mrs. Goodenough sees her do it.

One evening some of the ladies of Hollingford are playing cards and Mrs. Goodenough tells all the ladies that Molly is sneaking around with Mr. Preston. Some of the other women have heard stories of the few times Molly sees Mr. Preston when she is trying to help her...
