Summary

In Chapter 24, Reese says her father had a boat hidden along the shore near their house. At the Harker house, Reese cries again at the sight of foxes eating at her father's body. She fires the gun and makes the foxes run, pauses for a moment by her father, then says she wants to leave. It takes some time, but Reese locates the boat. Reese says she believes no one is looking for a “real cure,” and that officials up to this point were only interested in experiments. Hetty says her father, who is in the Navy, can help with that. They agree they are going to try to find Byatt first, then look for a cure. Reese gets the boat ready, including placing oars in case they have to row, and pushes them out.
