Franka Gerber

Franka is a 26-year-old German nurse who fights against the Nazi regime. She is melancholic about whether the organization that she is a part of, the White Rose, can ever triumph over the Nazis. Franka also demonstrates that she is brave and determined, as well as innovative and very intelligent. She frequently uses her surroundings to her advantage and survives through her wits, as seen when she constructs a snow cave to save herself and Werner from freezing in the cold. She has blonde hair and blue eyes.

Prior to the start of the novel, Franka was involved with another German dissenter named Hans, who was brutally murdered by the Nazis in front of her 10 months ago. However, as the novel progresses, Franka's chief love interest becomes Werner Graf a.k.a. John Lynch as the two struggle to survive and escape the Gestapo.
