Chapter 38 Summary

Gram is excited that the kiss finally happened. Sal doesn't dare to check their progress on the map. She feels that they may have a chance if she keeps talking and praying underneath. Gram asks what happens next with Phoebe.

Sal finds Phoebe at the bus stop, sitting on the bench. When Phoebe asks where she's been, Sal's evasive. She wants to tell her about Ben and his mother but can't. Phoebe watched them sit there, having a great time. Her mother's hair is short now. She even spits on the grass in the middle of her conversation. Mike Bickle laughs and follows her suit.
