Chapter 36 Summary

The next day is Saturday. Phoebe and Sal are going to take the bus to the university in Chanting Falls. Ben is there, too, but he's going to a hospital there to see an old friend. Sal sits between Phoebe and Ben, and Ben's arm presses up against hers.

At Chanting Falls, they go in different directions. Phoebe is nervous that Ben was on the same bus. Sal felt nervous but for a different reason. Every time she's with him, her skin tickles, her brain buzzes and her blood feels as if it were percolating.

The address takes them to the freshman dormitory. They stand out among all the grown-up college students. Phoebe asks Sal to ask about Mike Bickle. She just can't. When Sal asks the man at the desk, he tells them that.....
