Chapter 34 Summary
The next day is one of the best and the worst in Sal's grandparents' lives. It is the sixth day and the next day is her mother's birthday. Gram hasn't slept a wink. She's really gearing up to see Old Faithful. Gram tries to crawl under the rope fence but is stopped by a park ranger. More people gather around as they wait for Old Faithful to erupt in fifteen minutes. Gram taps her fingers together, getting more excited by the minute.
At first, there are only fitful spits, and some people mutter in disappointment. Then it is like the radiator boiling over, a tea kettle blowing its top. Old Faithful hisses and steams. A sudden spout of water shoots out, maybe three feet high. There is more steam, boiling and hissing, and a huge column of water shoots straight up into the air. "It looks like an upsidey-down waterfall!"...
