Chapters 23-24 Summary

In Chapter 23, Rose and Christian run through the woods, and Rose outpaces him. When Rose gets close, she calls Lissa's name and is answered with howls: the psi-hounds. Rose finds Lissa near collapse, surrounded by four of the beasts. Rose calls the wolves to her and picks up a tree branch as a weapon. She sends one of the hounds to the ground and is fighting another one when Christian appears. He uses a branch and his fire power to attack one of the hounds, but another comes at him from behind.

Rose fights off a second hound and then goes to fight the two attacking Christian. She doesn't have to. Alberta, one of the guardians, comes and shoots them. Christian isn't dead, but he's horribly mangled. Lissa is too drained to heal him, but Rose offers her blood. Lissa is revived enough to heal Christian.
